Arts Proficiency
Artist Statement
I seek the nexus of art, science and religion. May 2023, I will receive a doctorate of ministry from Wesley Seminary, Washington DC in Curating Community through the Arts. Previously, in May 2020 I received a MA in theology with honors from the Virginia Theological Seminary ("VTS") and was named recipient of the Yoder Award for artistic Christian Evangelical work.
My thesis at Wesley Seminary presents original research on millennials and how we might invite them to worship at church. At VTS, I wrote on John Polkinghorne, theologian, Episcopal priest and quantum physicist.
I held a solo art exhibit entitled the Sentient Universe (all works sold or donated) and have shown work at University of Concordia, Portland, OR, VTS, and various cathedrals and churches. Recently, I have completed 3 works for the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection in Alexandria, VA. As an artist and theologian, I offer my artistic presence to our community.
In 1999 I retired from practicing law (an old trial lawyer), and then returned to school for an additional BA in studio art. Next, I attended the Boston School for the Museum of Fine Arts for post graduate work, ran my own ArtStudio12, completed a MA in theology, and have now completed my DMin degree to be awarded this May. I enjoy public speaking and have presentations available on the Monument for Peace and Justice in Montgomery, Alabama (honoring those lynched after Emancipation), "The Mystery of Millennials", and "The Nexus of Art, Science and Religion". All presentations include an emphasis on artworks and group interaction.
Please call on me to present to your group or to share your thoughts. See also artworks at eltawilson.com .
Thank you, Elta
