ECVA Conversations | Spirit Driven Stitching
Icons in Fabric

with Rev. Posey Krakoswky
April 27, 2023 Thursday
7pm Eastern, 6pm Central, 4pm Pacific

Posey Krakowsky is a lifelong artist and iconographer whose medium is found objects, beads, painting, and calligraphy. At her 2022 one-woman show at Church of the Heavenly Rest Manhattan, she displayed several large works, each multi-layered and rich with color, symbol and meaning.

You are invited to join Posey in this ECVA Conversation, titled Spirit Driven Stitching, as she talks about her practice of attention and observation as she builds her pieces. Often taking months to complete, Posey works layer by layer until, in her words, “the magic happens.”

The Episcopal Journal interviewed her for her recent show and you can watch the interview here, https://episcopaljournal.org/spirit-driven-stitching-quilts-by-posey-krakowsky/

ABOUT REV. POSEY KRAKOWSKY | Posey Krakowsky is an artist, theologian, and writer. A lifelong fiber artist, Posey’s specialty is quilting, but she also knits, weaves, paints, sews, and works with beads. Her quilting pieces are multi-layered and rich. Each one takes many months to complete.

An Episcopal priest in the Diocese of New York, Posey currently serves as a priest associate at the Church of the Ascension in Greenwich Village. An M Div graduate of Union Theological Seminary, she also earned an STM from General Seminary. Krakowsky has been blending her love of the arts and religion her entire life. She earned her bachelor’s degree in early Christian studies from Harvard University, then went on to work in the world of fashion in New York for nine years before her two children were born. She later taught at the Ethical Culture Fieldston School in the Bronx, NY before starting seminary. For several years, Posey was a guest lecturer at Union Theological Seminary, where she co-taught Art & Interfaith Dialogue, a course that took place at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. She is also the founder of The Contemplative Gaze — a teaching ministry that offers resources for personal and group spiritual growth using a contemplative method of viewing art as the catalyst for engagement.
